In response to the rapid growth of Northwest Bexar County, Emergency Services District 7 (ESD 7) embarked on the expansion of Fire Station 115. Marksmen General Contractors was chosen to lead the construction of a new, two-story 26,000-square-foot fire station. The project’s complexity involved the demolition of the old house and fire station foundation, but it also offered unique opportunities like live fire training for firefighters.
Throughout the project, Marksmen GC worked closely with the design team and ESD 7 to find cost-saving solutions, which brought significant value. Through a collaborative value engineering process, substitutions like switching out high-cost materials for equally fireproof alternatives and simplifying ceiling systems helped save nearly $100,000.
The finished station includes modern apparatus bays, fitness facilities, sleeping quarters, a kitchen featuring a pecan wood table from a tree on the property, and administrative offices. By balancing the project’s needs with budget constraints, Marksmen GC delivered a state-of-the-art facility that enables ESD 7 to provide superior fire protection to its rapidly growing community.
This project highlights the importance of teamwork between the Owner, the design team, and Marksmen GC, resulting in a fire station that will serve the community for years to come.
